The snowy peak of Salkantay (6372m) has been considered a sacred mountain since the time of the Inkas. The trails surrounding Salkantay are also Inka trails. In this walk we'll appreciate the surrounding glacial walls. The hike begins in the friendly town of Mollepara. As we are walking up the trail, the snow peaks will appear in the valley. The first to appear will be Humantay and then later the impressive snowy peak of Salkantay. The hike ends on the other side of the mountains in the tropical valley of the River Vilcanota, near Machupicchu.
Salkantay 4,300 masl. A remote and ancient footpath in the same region of the Inca trail, but less traveled with more spectacular views. A magnificent wilderness alternative for those who wish to escape the more congested trekking routes or those who are looking for alternatives if the traditional Inca Trail has no spaces available.
