Downhill Biking on Chachani
This is an active, but not strenuous adventure for mountain lovers. You will experience the adrenaline of descending by the slopes of one of the inactive volcanoes of Arequipa!
Itinerary of Downhill Biking on Chachani
We'll pick you up in Arequipa in the morning and depart in our 4x4 vehicle to Chachani, making some stops at interesting sites in the Cabrerias Zone, the area between Misti and Chachani Volcanoes. Our starting point will be Azufrero, at 5,000m.
The guide will tell us instructions and safety advises, he will also explain the route that we'll be taking, which can split into three parts:
Part one is 1,000m descent over a zigzagging 10km road of stone and sand (where less-experienced riders will have to limit their speed due to the curves).
Part two is a 200m climb on mostly solid ground, spread along a 16km distance and known as Caballo Muerto.
Part three is a 2,000m descent finishing along paved roads at speeds up to 45km an hour. This is the longest segment.
In total, we´ll descend 2,700m over 5 hours and travel 60km, arriving at Carmen Alto Lookout in Arequipa at about 3:00-4:00pm. After a thrilling and unforgettable ride, transport will be waiting there to drop everyone off at their respective hotel.
