What to Do in Miraflores, Lima: Our Top Recommendations

Mira Miraflores limaMiraflores is the most popular base in Lima for tourists, which is why our hostel in Lima is based there. In large part, this popularity is due to its location: it’s a seaside district blessed with green cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s also considered the safest district in the city, meaning that you can enjoy its plethora of restaurants and bars without worry.

Explore the Boardwalk

Miraflores holds the largest part of the Malecon-Verde-Love-Park-Paragliding-Miraflores-Limaboardwalk known as the Malecón Verde. The district takes beautification and maintenance seriously, which makes walking along the Malecón a pleasure. The walk follows the seaside cliffs and is interrupted by a series of small parks, most famously Love Park, which is marked by a large statue of two lovers. Continuing along the walk, you’ll come across the modern Larcomar mall, which was built into the seaside cliffs. Eventually, you’ll even come to a picturesque lighthouse.

Tour Huaca Puccllana at Night

Miraflores still retains the vestiges of previous cultures, most notably so in the pre-Columbian pyramid of Huaca Pucllana (sometimes referred to as Huaca Juliana). As strange as it seems, you’ll find this ancient adobe structure right in the middle of modern Miraflores. Previously, you could only visit the pyramid during the day. Since two weeks ago, however, a new light system was installed and now you can tour Huaca Puccllana at night. The first who have done so say that it helps the experience feel more immersive.

The site includes a museum which showcases the finds unearthed there. If you take a Lima city tour, Huaca Puccllana is always included in the itinerary.

Browse the Goods at Kennedy Park / Óvalo Miraflores

Miraflores has a central park which is sometimes referred to as Parque Kennedy and other times as Óvalo Miraflores. Most evenings, there’s a pop-up handicraft and art market, and you’ll occasionally run across roving street artists or dancers. Sometimes events are held there as well- it’s like the cultural heart of Miraflores. One aspect of the park that might surprise you is its thriving cat population. These cats are technically strays, but they live in the park and local residents feed them. They’re considered a beloved part of the park.

A few of the side streets are pedestrian-only, most famously Calle Pizza (Pizza Street). Here, you’ll find a number of restaurants, bars, and dance clubs. It’s the most popular nightlife scene in Miraflores.

Just beyond Love Park, you’ll find Raimondi Park, which acts as a launch site for tandem paragliding! Because it’s tandem, you can do this even if you’ve never paraglided before. It’s a great way to see Miraflores (from above!) and have an adventure at the same time.

Learn to Surf

Although swimmers prefer sandy beaches in the south to the rockier beaches of Miraflores, the latter do have one advantage: they’re great for learning to surf! If you’re interested, you can arrange to take a class in reception at our hostel in Lima.
