The arrival of the New Year 2018 is approaching and without a doubt many of us want to spend it in a place where we can start the year with good vibes and positive energy, so we recommend you to visit the millennial city of Cusco.
The city of Cusco throughout the year receives thousands of tourists who come to visit the modern wonder Machu Picchu and it is on these dates that the vast majority of domestic and foreign tourists are concentrated to renew their energy in the Navel of the World.
On the night of December 31, the concentration point is in the Plaza de Armas of Cusco where the municipality offers free fetival and people celebrate with great excitement while waiting for midnight, you will see some people walking around the square with Your suitcases, this is a belief that is practiced by people who wish to travel to some part of the world in the coming year.
Among other popular customs is to eat 12 grapes and wear yellow underwear to attract luck and money, if you want to be a part of one of these traditions you can buy what you need at local fairs that are only for this day in the main streets and squares such as San Francisco and San Pedro.
What to do and where to go?
To spend the New Year in Cusco it is recommended to stay here for at least 4 days in which you can take advantage of to know the main touristic places of the city such as Coricancha, Sacsayhuaman, the beautiful Sacred Valley, the mines of Sal de Maras and Machu Picchu.
However, if you want to visit a place less known and visited by tourists, you can choose to visit the Humantay Lagoon. This beautiful lagoon that lies at the foot of the Nevado de Humantay and is on the route to see Salkantay, is a quiet place where the peaceful and harmonious landscape stands out. It is also a very good destination if you want to start the year full of adrenaline since in the town of Soraypampa you can make Zip Line, without a doubt a destination in which it is worthwhile to receive the New Year.
Another destination a little less commercial is the waterfall of Perolniyoc with its almost 100 m fall, this beautiful waterfall is an hour and a half from Ollantaytambo which is reached by car to the town of Socma and then a short and quiet walk to about 45 minutes. You can visit this place before going to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Machu Picchu. As you can see there are several places offered by the city of Cusco, places where you can renew energy, meet new people and of course know a culture as rich as the Andean also.Where to Stay?
